La chimie théorique et computationnelle en génie des procédés est un domaine qui se situe à l’interface de la chimie, de la physique et de l’informatique. Il s’agit d’utiliser des méthodes de modélisation et de simulation informatiques pour étudier les propriétés et les comportements des molécules, des réactions chimiques et des processus impliqués dans le génie des procédés. En utilisant des approches théoriques et des calculs informatiques, la chimie théorique et computationnelle permet de prédire et de comprendre les propriétés des substances chimiques, telles que leur structure moléculaire, leur stabilité, leur réactivité chimique, leurs propriétés thermodynamiques et les phénomènes des processus, etc. Cela permet de rationaliser et de guider la conception de nouveaux matériaux, de catalyseurs et de produits chimiques, en minimisant les essais expérimentaux coûteux et en accélérant le processus de développement. Dans le contexte du génie des procédés, la chimie théorique et computationnelle est utilisée pour étudier les réactions chimiques qui se produisent dans les procédés industriels, afin d’optimiser leur efficacité, leur sélectivité et leur durabilité, ainsi que la prédiction de la phénoménologie des processus en question. Cela comprend la modélisation et la simulation des réactions chimiques, la prédiction des cinétiques réactionnelles, l’optimisation des conditions de réaction, etc. Ces informations permettent d’améliorer la conception des procédés, d’optimiser les paramètres de fonctionnement et de réduire les coûts de production.
